Lots of free movies...Now those of you who know me even reasonably well, should know I relish doing things cheaply. For instance, our local cinema now cots £7.60 a ticket... it's been many years since Rebecca & I went to the cinema not on a Wednesday, when you can get 2 for the price of 1.
Anyhow, via the excellent moneysavingexpert.com website, I found out about a 3-month trial of a DVD rental-by-post system, the sort which has become quite popular in recent years. These trials are normally only 1 week, 2 weeks or a month in length, so this was quite a great deal, so we signed up to it and have watched an awful lot of movies in the last month.
For posterity, here is a list of the 20 films we've seen through this scheme, together with a brief review. If we had gone to see them all at the cinema, I would've cost us a whopping £152!
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull... what a silly film! I was expecting it to be quite silly though
Dark Knight, The - Feature... A really good film, but too violent for my tastes how on earth this was a 12A certificate instead of a 15, I don't know
Slumdog Millionaire... lives up to the hype - an excellent film
Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End... one (or two?!) film too many in the series. Apparently they're making a fourth?!
Simpsons Movie, The... better than expected. Didn't feel just like a long Simposns episode
Spider-Man 3... an average-to-good movie; not a lame sequel but not a birilliant tone either
Ice Age 2: The Meltdown... a decent enough animated movie
Ice Age... I preferred this to Ice Age 2
Hancock... an interesting take on a superhero movie. Would recommend
Get Smart... bit of a slapstick comedy, very much my sort of film and very enjoyable
Bourne Identity, The
Bourne Supremacy, The
Bourne Ultimatum, The... The Bourne series was seriously awesome - a clever, thoughtful action movie trilogy. Highly recommended
Biggle's Adventures In Time... erm, what can be said about this film? So terribly bad that it was good...
Kind Hearts and Coronets... an old black & white move that Rebecca had seen before. It was a comedy and actually quite funny
Other Boleyn Girl, The (2007)... another suggestion from the wife (as she had read the book). It was a good drama, even for me who isn't normally into that kind of thing
Famous Five, The - The Musical - Smuggler's Gold... along with Biggles, this was another one we got for the "so bad it's funy" category and it didn't disappoint
Moulin Rouge... what a weird film! More a girly film I think though I found it alright
Back To The Future... still a legendary film, that my wife had not seen before. As someone said to me, "isn't it illegal NOT to have seen that film?"
