Getting to the wedding by carGetting to the Oxford areaOxford is very centrally-located, just off the M40 between Birmingham & Oxford. It is also close to the M4, and is linked to the south coast via the A34 dual carrigeway. A word of advice if you plan on coming via the M4 from south-west England or south Wales... many route planners will tell you to turn off the M4 at Swindon. Although this route is shorter, experience has taught us that it is about 15 minutes quicker to carry onto junction 13 and then go up the A34 to Oxford. Getting into Oxford city centreThe centre of Oxford is very, VERY car-unfriendly - I have yet to find a map, route planner program or GPS that knows of all the dead ends, one-way streets, and bus-only roads that are littered across the Oxford city centre. Also, the car parks are extremely expensive, and the roads that cars are allowed to go down have a tendency to be very busy. So, if you are planning to drive to the wedding, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND you use one of the very good Park & Ride services that are available in Oxford. Park & RideDue to the church's central location, none of the park & ride buses stop more than a 5 minute walk from the church. Full information on the city's Park & Ride scheme can be found on the official website.
Once in the city centre, the church is easily located at the end of Pembroke Street. The coach page has a good map of the city centre & how to find the church. Driving into the city centre (not advised!)If you insist on driving & parking in central Oxford, we recommend you park in the Westgate shopping centre car park, as the church is located just outside the entrance of the shopping centre. To get to the Westgate car park, come into Oxford via either Botley Road (A420 from the west) or Abingdon Road (A4144 from the south). When nearing the city centre, get onto Hollybush Row/Oxpens Road - the entrance for the Westgate car park is clearly signposted, on the left just after the ice rink if you're coming from the west, on the right if you're coming from the south. On level 4f of the car park there is a bridge that goes straight into the Westgate shopping centre, go past the Sainsbury's and out of the door, and St Ebbe's is right in front of you! Car Park charges are high. If you are staying over 8 hours, it will cost you £17.30. 3 or 4 hours is roundabouts £10. |
